How To Sell A Digital Product Using PayPal

If you are going to sell a digital product such as an ebook on your Elastic site, PayPal makes this very easy.

Before going any further you need to read our other help guide:

Step 1:

Create a download page where you will store your document so that it can be downloaded after successful payment.

I recommend using a complex URL such as http://yoursite.com/tz-22-ui

This is because you don't want people to guess the URL.

Add the text you require and use the document insert feature to upload and create a link to your file.

Step 2:

On the "add/edit page" locate the new page you just created and click the "hide page" box and save.  Hide page prevents your page from showing in sitemaps etc. and blocks it to search engines.

Step 3:

Create your PayPal button using the guide above and insert the button into the pages you require.

It is vital that you complete some of the PayPal step 3 procedure.

You will be presented with this choice:

Tick the first option "Take customers to this URL when they cancel their checkout" and put in a full URL of a page on your website that you would like the person to go.  This could be your home page.

Tick the second option "Take customers to this URL when they finish their checkout" and put the full URL of the page you created in Step 1 of this guide (see above).  This is where your customer will be sent to download your digital product when payment has been received by PayPal.

Important Note:

Auto redirect must be turned on before customers will be automatically sent to a download page.  Here are the steps:

  • Login to paypal
  • Click profile
  • Click my selling tools on the left
  • Click website preferences > update
  • Set auto return to on (you will have to set a default success page).
  • Save

Happy selling.
